CODERED

What is CodeRED?

CodeRED provides a unique 24-hour telephone warning system for the City of Superior and Douglas County. CodeRED provides citizens with critical information, warnings, and advisories concerning an emergency. It allows citizens of Superior / Douglas County to take immediate, positive action to protect themselves in case of an emergency, and permits emergency response agencies to organize evacuation and shelters at any hour of the day or night. You can register to receive CodeRED notifications, by providing your contact information.

When is CodeRED Alert Used?

CodeRED may be used in various situations, including:
  • Hazardous materials emergencies
  • Fire-related emergencies
  • Police-related emergencies
  • Public health-related emergencies
  • Other emergencies as needed

How Will it Work?

Once the system has been activated, a message will be sent by computers to telephones registered to addresses within the area that is affected by the emergency.

What Will I Have to Do?

Follow the directions in the message. The message will direct you to do something such as:
  • Prepare to evacuate
  • Evacuate
  • Shelter in-place

What Should I Do if I am Notified of an Emergency?

Stay calm. Turn on your radio or television to an Emergency Broadcast System station for information or directions. Do not use the telephone. The lines are needed for official business and your call could delay telephone "ring-down" warning information and/or emergency response organization action.
